I have just received an e-mail asking me to sign a petition, to get Costa Coffee to not provide free Copies of The Sun

I personally think there are more important things to worry about. Or do you agree with her?

Costa's coffee is very tasty. As are its cakes. However, Costa's decision to stock free copies of The Sun newspaper for it's patrons to read leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. The Sun's Page 3 feature is an abomination, but by providing the paper free in its restaurants Costa is sending out the message that it is ok. Also, often the page is viewed openly and left around on the tables and is therefore seen by customers who do NOT wish to see it.

As a woman I find The Sun's Page 3 insulting and degrading. It gives the message that women are only to be seen as sexual objects. It can be incredibly damaging to girls and women's self esteem, and with an alarmingly large number of women undertaking plastic surgery to try to live up to these Page 3 type images, this is something we need to combat. It can also be very damaging to boys and men, who are constantly bombarded with pornographic images of women, skewing their idea of what a woman is, what a woman represents, and what a woman's value and role is in society. You can choose not to buy The Sun, but you can't choose not to see it, or for children not to see it, when someone is looking at it right in front of you in a cafe which is giving it away for free.

I don't agree with her.
Costa is not the only café which stocks it free for patrons to read - our local cafés stock the Sun, the Star, the Express. I can't see any point in picking on Costa. Far better, IMO, if the petition was to the Sun, to stop printing page 3 in the first place.

Neither do I, I will not sign.

I agree boxy, much better.
Does not offend me in the slightest but if there are young kids around then may not be a good idea....take your own paper in with you !
I got this email too, thoight it was a bit ridiculous to be honest. I don't mind being asked to sign things that are important but I'm getting pee'd off with the incessant requests to sign this kind of guff.

I only sign the ones I believe in rocky.
You sound like a bundle of fun.
Like the one for Arturo the poor bear.
IMO one of the most inane of petitions ive ever heard of....
Question Author
Yes I signed the one for Arturo.
I think lots of us have marval, thank goodness.
I don't agree with her, you and or your children could see someone reading it on public transport or a park bench, anywhere.

She needs something more important to fret over.
Nowt wrong wi elbows.....
True that.
I think she has the choice not to go into Costas. voting with her feet will achieve more than a petition....or maybe just get a life.
Delete it and sign the Free Arturo petition instead.
Tilly I sent a post called TILLY2 as I wanted to ask you about Titan Holidays.
Going to post again, please watch out for it
Do people actively seek things to complain about? I can think of far worse ‘abominations’ than page 3.

Yawn!
