Computer Screen Problem

I've got windows 8.1 on my laptop - far too advanced for me but have to live with it. Have been trying to disable the function which changes the page view when I slide/drag my finger across the mouse. It's driving me insane. I have fixed it once before but purely by luck and can't find out in settings/help etc how to do it without bothering ABers - there is simply too much information for me to take in. Please can some kind soul guide me (very, very simply!) through the process. Thank you

Sorry typo - > should read slide/drag finger across touchpad. Any help gratefully received.
