Schizophrenia? Does Anyone Have First Hand Experience Of The Symtoms?
6 Answers
I'm watching "This Morning" on Itv 1 and there's a section about schizophrenia with some guy who was about to kill himself by jumping off a bridge when someone approached him and concvinced him not to do it.
The schizophrenic guy then gave Jeff an mp3 player with horrible demoting voices on it for Jeff to wear during the next few days which would talk at random times giving Jeff an idea of what it's like to have schizophrenia.
( This was at roughly 11.00am. This morning started at 10:30am and is being repeated on Itv1+1@11:30 so to my rough calculations the Jeff brazier/schizophrenia bit should be on at roughly 12:00pm but would start watching at roughly 11:45am if you want to catch this bit.
My question is do they actually hear physical voices or is it more like your own inner voice/consciousness and not actually a voice?
Another thing is the other day I had the most scariest situation which I've tried to ignore and sweep under the rug but now I'm starting to wonder whether I have schizophrenia.
Okay this has been hard for me to write as I don't want to set this off again but I started walking around the house and started getting jumpy as I'd walk into a room and jump as the duvet and pillow would look like a human form, this started happening with the curtains/clothes lying around and when in the shower it felt like someone was in there with me and I started getting really scared telling myself there's no one in the house with me and sat down but from the corner of my eye things like hanging coats and handbags would look like a person or faces looking at me and I'd obviously turn around and see that there were inanimate objects and try to focus on what was right in front of me and this came to a scary end when I went upstairs for something and nearly everything looked like a person and then I walked passed the window and it looked like someone was out the window facing away and I had the most scariest feeling come over me like I was about to lose my mind and my heart was beating harder and faster then I've ever know it to so I screamed downstairs to another person and luckily they were in and answered.
I was very nearly going to scream there's something/someone in the house with me/watching me and tell them to call the police/ambulance but never.
They had their kids so I ran downstairs and started playing with them trying to put all the negative thoughts out of my mind and ended up sleeping in my friends room with the door opened so that the hallway light illuminated the room slightly.
I'm still a bit shaky and last night I started getting paranoid again that something was there with me but not to the point as the other day.
Nothing like this has never happened to me and I had not consumed any drugs or drink. Is it possible that I'm schizophrenic? Is there a reputable online test I can take/read? Is it stress from not working? The heavy drinking ( I doubt it ) Or high blood pressure as my heart has been beating hard and fast lately and I woke up the other day with one really bloodshot eye for no reason which I though was an eye infection but which disappeared over the next few days by itself.
I have a dr's appointment later but am worried about telling them anything regarding this as this would destroy my career prospects if they check my med records.
What happened to me and has anything like this happened to anyone before?

Also is it possible to tell the dr "off the record"? but if they then referred you or prescribed you meds then wouldn't they have to then put it "On the record" making my "Off the record" request futile?
Anyway I'll catch this later. Have a good Friday everyone :)

Sounds like an effect of the booze to me but its not only people with schizophrenia who hear voices. Your whole experience sounds to me like a form of panic attack.

TBH I don't see any point going to see a doctor unless you are going to tell them the whole truth. Your employer cannot access you medical records in the UK.

My inner voice/consciousness sounds like a physical voice to me. Ok I can tell it isn't being detected by my ears, but inside my mind.
But I'm unsure that would make much odds if some part of your subconscious has decided to bring a discussion that your conscious mind wants no truck with, to the forefront of your thoughts. Your conscious mind seems less in control than you would like to believe.

No expert but it sounds to me as if you entered an altered state of consciousness, for whatever reason. You were interpreting things in a different way than you normally do and it all seemed strange; frightening even. If it is a rare event I'd not worry too much were I you, but get advice if it starts being regular.
