I'm Fuming...

All day (since 8am) I've received up to now 6 cold calls and the latest (09:29) call has somewhat upset me.

"Hello can I speak with a Mrs * &&&&&", 'Sorry she's not available at the moment, who is it please?'. "Can I be speaking with Mr ^ &&&&&?", 'No, can I ask who is calling please', "If I'm not talking with Mr or Mrs &&&&& why should I tell you who I am?". He then immediately hung up. It wasn't so much as him not telling me who he was (or is working for) but the shear fact his response was in an arrogant manner.

Had this been a call that my mother or step father had actually wanted to receive the person on the other end of the phone would of said which company they are from. I've never had a cold caller be so rude when I wasn't.

Anyone had this sort of cold call treatment recently?

Yes, happens a lot. I keep my answering machine switched on at all times and screen ALL calls before I answer.

Diz....don't be annoyed. You have enough to deal with at the moment. They don't know so what seems a bit callous is just ignorance xx

Try to remember that these cold callers are just people working their way down a very long list with just a card to read off questions. They can't cope with anything outside the box and won't be thinking of those who answer the phone as real people.

I've spoke to our phone company and told them to block all withheld numbers - no exceptions. That will stop them - peace at last.

Talbot: I get where you're coming from however I don't have a phone close by and have to run to it in order to answer before the person hangs up - another inconvenience.

When these calls come in Dizmo, you can normally tell they are from abroad with the time it takes for the caller to speak, I put the phone down.

TWR: I'm aware of that but given the fact my step dad is in hospital it isn't a risk I can take. 2/3 calls from the ward at hospital has taken time to connect properly.

Diz...it's horrible. When my dad was sick everytime the phone rang my heart sank.

Quite surprised you could actually understand what they were saying. Just move on and ignore them.

Jordyboy9: Oh that's a good one. I once answered the phone at my mums work place and said she was dead. 2 weeks later someone arrived from a company whom they purchase stock from. He was carrying flowers... I think you can work the rest out.

Surgeries, hospitals, police etc withold numbers. Best fib you are who they want & let them prattle away, wasting money, to your mute phone ;)

Tamborine: The hospital number isn't withheld. The police yes, however because all the bobbies in my local area know me (and I don't travel far. Apart from when I next crash Ummmm's gaff, :P) and also know all our mobile numbers I'm not so worried about missing a call from them. I don't ICE my home number anyway.

I keep getting calls for a Stuart Tunnelweb. It's rather amusing listening to foreigners trying to pronounce Tunnelweb. I don't understand where they got that Surname from as it doesn't exist - at least not anywhere within 200 miles of me.

Once got a call or called someone about the computer .The person was some where in India I think .Anyway they were directing me on how to solve the problem .I had to do this ,do that .Then they said you are pressing the FN key yes .I was having none of it so informed them I had pressed no ?'?e?@@ key .Not sure if they understood or not at least the learnt what the FN stood for.
