Protecting Your Mobile Phone

Lots of coverage on the news this morning about mobile phones being stolen then huge bills being run up.

If you have a Samsung phone this may be useful info you.

One of the options Samsung offer is a "Find my Mobile" web page.

Basically you create a Samsung account, then register your phone.

Once your phone is registered you can go to the Samsung "Find my Mobile" page and here you can see a map where your mobile is (down to the house level), also you can lock your phone (to stop it being used) and you can wipe all the personal details off the phone.

I assume other companies offer a similar service.

There are apps about that have this functionality, but one has to set it up before it gets nicked. Being able to lock the phone must be useful, as it means it will be a pain to get working and sell on. Some apps allow you to turn on the phone alarm. You may not get it back in once piece if you do that straight away though.

However, of course, the best course of action to avoid low bills if you don't have this is to know where the phone is, and so be aware if it has been stolen, and then tell your provider before there is a massive use of it that you are responsible for.

Or, of course, go PAYG and only have, say, £10 on at any one time.
