My friend and her daughter are having a slight disagreement over whether it's a Ladybird or Ladybug.

What do you call it?

Please simply answer Ladybird or Ladybug

Thank you

Ive never heard of Ladybug books :-)
Ladybird.

Usually Ladybird but can be either.
'Ladybug' sounds American to me and Wikipedia concurs:

"Coccinellids are known as ladybugs in North America, and ladybirds in other areas. Entomologists widely prefer the names ladybird beetles or lady beetles as these insects are not classified as true bugs"

Her daughter is adamant it's Ladybug...
Just hoping that I can get enough answers to show her and see if it helps.
I did consider Ladybug as American terminology though
Probably saw it on some American cartoon. Not really important.
settle the argument that there is no 'e' in argument

oh - Ladybird
you mean president johnson's wife was really Ladybug

and being called Ladybird ( as y'all did ) really used to bug the lady ?

oh well
coccinella - my foot ! well there is this

it was a URK to a you tube
burl ives - ugly bug ball

and there is a tootless seven year old 'singing' along

I have always known them as ladybirds.
Here in Norfolk we call them Bishy Barnybees.
Cue jokes about Norfolk :)
