Yes because she was dishonest in withholding the information that she undoubtedly knew may be seen aa a conflict of interest - not specifically because her brother worked for Barclays, there is a difference.

She is not being denied a promotion because her brother works for a bank, she is resigning because her position and his role represents a conflict of interests which she failed formally to divulge - which is not the same thing at all.

It seems a classic case of the 'rich and powerful' (just have a look at her background) assuming that rules apply to everyone but them - and/or not having the due diligence to check that the little people had filled her forms in properly.

Of course she has to go - but will undoubtedly pop-up in another excessively well remunerated position after spending some time with her garden ...

She resigned because she lied about having disclosed her brother's position, but it was always an untenable position for her because of the conflict of interest.

She actually wrote the conflict of interests guidelines and then did not apply them to herself. She has not been denied promotion she has been sacked! She lasted as assistant governor of the Bank of England for less than 2 weeks!

according to the rule book that was written by er um herself

and it would have been a fatal bar to appointment anyway
( she would be regulating a bank her brother was a middle manager in )
