Iphone 4 To Iphone 6

I am not very technical but I need to help my Father in Law upgrade his iphone 4 to an iphone 6.
I have fairly recently upgraded from an iphone 5 to a 7 and it was all very straightforward as I remember - but is there anything specific that I need to consider in upgrading such an old iphone as the 4 eg does it take a different SIM card etc?

yes you will need a smaller sim card, as i have recently gone from a 4s to a 6s plus and these are smaller. Other than that everything else is straight forward as it was for you going from a 5 to a 7

So my next question is . . . where do we get a smaller SIM? Is it bought separately or from the provider or somewhere else?

I don't have a mobile, but I would suggest backing up the phone to the computer.

When I went from my ipad to ipad 4 I backed it up, then atached the ipad 4 and got the option to setup as a new ipade ot from a backup - so I did the from backup option and all my apps etc. were copied to the ipad 4.

As for the sim - if you are staying with the same provider, then get in touch with them and they will sort you out and keep the same number

Yes, I'm fairly confident about the upgrading process. I'll put itunes on his laptop and then i think it should all be quite straightforward.
Good to know about the need for a new SIM.
