Wimbledon - Ladies Semi Finals
Magdelena Rybarikova took 7 months out from tennis as she recovered from surgery to her left wrist and right knee. She returned to competitive tennis in February ranked at number 200, slipping to 453 in March. Since then she has won a couple of minor tournaments ($80K and $60K) and made 2 semi final appearances. She came into Wimbledon 2017 as arguably the most in-form player on grass and has improved with each game, knocking one or two very much fancied players out of the tournament. Now ranked 87th, her variety of ground strokes can upset her opponent, Garbine Muguruza, who is bidding to reach her 2nd Wimbledon final.
Johanna Konta needs no introduction and will not lack for confidence having played the best tennis of her life this week and also being 3-2 up in the head to heads against today's opponent, 5 time Wimbledon Champion, Venus Williams. The American must believe that, in the absence of sister Serena, this could be her best (and, at 37, maybe her last) chance of lifting the trophy for a 6th time. Both are equally adept from a service perspective but Jo Konta's consistency off both wings could see her win most of the baseline rallies. With Andy Murray losing his crown yesterday, it may be a tad early to proclaim, "The King is dead, long live the Queen", but Jo can take a massive step toward that announcement being made in a few days time.
