Very Old Ipod Nano

I have found a very old iPod nano - I have plugged it in to laptop and got iTunes open.
Every song on the iPod is listed with a 'tick' by it but every song is greyed out.....I want to delete many of the songs - every thing I have looked at says right click and delete but this option is not there.....any ideas.

How do I get new music onto my iPod Nano.....? I've tried highlighting every song in an album on iTunes and right click - add to devise and picking Nano but nothing happens...
