I'm normally very anti all the new 'anniversary version remix' guff that we seem to be inundated with these days - provided the original has been transferred with reasonable care to CD, then that is enough - it reflects what the artist wanted when the music was first released.

I tend to think that money, rather than artistic integrity, is at the root of most of the remix/reixssue industry.

But ... But ... But ... the reissue of The Beatles (aka The White Album) is quite astonishingly good - the remixed versions of the original double album are clean, sharp and fizzing with creative energy - it's turned what I always thought of as a 'flawed masterpiece' into (probably) the best album of its time - and probably damn near the best of any time.

The CD of 'Esher Demos' is fascinating - you can hear the creative processes at work - and some of the acoustic takes are worth the price of admission on their own.

Only £15 from Amazon today - get one - trust me it's worth every penny :

I am entirely in agreement, re-issues are usually motivated by record company profits, than any actual benefit to the listener, or in turn, their perception and appreciation of the artist.

Your post has ensured that I will be investing some of my birthday money in a copy of the new issue - thanks!!
There are 2 new re-releases, 3 if you count vinyl. One with 3 disks, the other 7. There's a bit of a difference in price ;-)

Yes indeed, OG - but I think a 3 CD set for £15 is probably a better bet than the full forensic 7 CD package at £125 :)
I love this album but I'm not sure how many versions of the same songs I want to hear. Having said that I'll probably buy it anyway.

As a point of interest, George Martin said he thought they should have made a brilliant single album, rather than a double padded out with sub standard stuff. I tend to agree with him.
the same is true of most double albums, including Exile on Main Street. But by the same token, you could remove the duller songs from most LPs and produce a brilliant EP.
