Having had one "foreign" rescue, I have to agree, Barry. She would have been better off on the streets that she was used to.
But, I think many rescues are too fussy, as well. So many people get turned down, and buy one instead.

pixie, I doubt that many of these 'rescue' dogs have been rescued. It is a way to breed dogs and sell them in the UK whilst avoiding UK laws.
Those who genuinely care about the welfare of dogs in foreign countries can join the active groups that petition for change in those countries. 15000 dogs a year are imported (or were) from Romania alone.

Many of the puppies that breeders like this breed are unhealthy due to a lack of knowledge of genetics. All they want is to make money.

Barry, yes, i realised on a previous thread. Woof gave me details...
I didn't get her to breed, btw, she was given to me as an escape-artist street dog. And was so worm-damaged, she couldn't take food. She was pts after only 4 days She may have died in pain on the streets, or may have been better without being transported. Will never know, but would prefer them to be looked after, wherever they are now. I thought I was doing the right thing, at the time.

Only if every dog suits every home, ttt. At the same time, you don't want to scare younger people off or have them injured or killed.

Ththere are thousands at rescue charities, all shapes and sizes, it's these eejits who'll pay thousands for Oojamflix dog or some sort of cobras that fuel the market. Err indoors' colleague has just paid over 2k for a French Bull dog for example. They should ban all professional breeders and hand it over to the dog charities and set a max cost.

Unfortunately, at this time anyway, charities only seem to have abused, or damaged dogs. And many can only manage a restricted number in their care. How do you suggest they manage and care for the thousands that end up on sites like gumtree...when they've already got thousands?
Around here all potential adopters serm to need a 6 ft fence and a garden. Not everyone does, particularly in urban areas.

pixie did you really say that a street dog would have been better off on the streets she was used too ?? Really ?? Having to search every day for a morsel of food or water, becoming ill and no-one to care for her, having puppies constantly, being abused by passers by who often have no respect at all for poor street dogs. You think that's a better life than being adopted into a good loving home ?? My Jill was a street dog in Spain and I am glad she was saved and ultimately found by me who loves her and gives her everything she needs. It kills me to think of her alone on the streets, as she once was.

pasta, you don't do it all in 5 minutes you phase the changes in over time so the leeches realise it's pointless breeding etc then tey won't bother then they'll see what they have and close down and find another parasitical avenue to slum in. It would take careful planning but I think achievable.

shirley i am not pixie, but she (i think) is saying that particular dog couldnt be saved, - it was close to death and had to put up with being transported, and being in unfamiliar surroundings at the end. for that dog it may well have been better for it to stay where it was

Putting my dispassionate head on I wonder, not for the first time, why this kind of stuff attracts such massive financial penalties and outrage across the board but child cruelty, neglect or abandonment can result in multiple chances and a tame social worker allocation.
