advertising and drink

I know that its been a while since advertising cigerettes was banned from tv, but I thought a while ago that drink was also banned. There was a while when I didn't see any drinks such as bacardi ect being advertized. Did I imagine it.

I think the format has been tightened - it's illegal to show any ads that promote drinking as 'cool' or 'grown-up' - but an outright ban hasn't happened, the government has too many high fliers connected to the drinks industry for that to happen.

The television advertising of spirits was banned until (what seems to me) only a few years ago. That's why you only saw ads for beer, wine and 'fortified wines' (ie sherry and port).
