LCD or Plasma?

In the very near future I intend to buy a 37"TV (HD Ready of course). Both LCD and Plasma are (to the besty of my knowledge) available in 37" and my question is WHICH IS BEST AT THIS SIZE? For example, is the liquid gravity based LCD at a disadvantage over the gas filled Plasma. I read the suggested web site for SMARTHOUSE magazine and it praised both a SONY Bravia 40" LCD and the PANASONIC (plasma) 500 series. My own gut feeling after some research would probably be the Panasonic 500 series, but I acknowledge that plasmas do have a possible 'OVERHEAT' POTENTENTIAL. Does anyone have good technical/practical experience of which medium I should go for.

I would say go for the LCD version.

Some museums' that have used plasma screens in their galleries have reported images being burnt onto the screens. Also if you think that the current tube telly's have a lifespan of 10-15 years, a plasma is much much less (2-3 yrs), mainly due to the nature of the gases in the screen.

LCD is a much more manageable technology. Do a google search for "LCD vs plasma" - there are loads of forums & reviews online.

personally i would go for lcd and toshiba.their current gen 37" tv gets excellent reviews as it comes with excellent 'anti-blurring' technology built in.

but you cant go wrong with panasonic either.they are commonly heralded as market leaders at the moment.

sorry to put a spanner in the works but we are going through the same process, we've been recommended to go for LED. In a nutshell LCD and Plasma or much of the same, except the blacks and white are far better on a plasma, plasma cost a lot more to run than an LCD and LED, LED is more like a plasma in contrast ratio. We've been reccomended a 47" LG LED for around £600 mark. Try Richer sounds and John Lewis for advice.
