Pulling away from traffic lights, my tiguan lost all power to the wheels like it was in neutral with the engine revving but the gears was still in drive. I pulled in, turned the engine off, restarted and everything was OK again. However I did notice it had gone into coast mode by itself. This has happened twice in a few weeks. A bit technical I know but does anyone have any ideas please?

old/new?
I assume your Tiguan has a DSG gearbox with selectable driving modes, one of which is 'coast.' It sounds as if the gearbox is self-selecting coast, which calls for expert attention. I know this sounds bleeding obvious but I don't think you can fix it yourself..... unless somebody knows better.
I know nothing about the DSG gearbox. Does it have separate fluid as do conventional automatics? If so, have you checked the level?
It could also be an engine malfunction and the electronics are telling the gearbox to "nurse the car home".
Is the 'Hesitation when accelerating' section here relevant, perhaps?
