Hi Guys, thanks for all the help with my previous question. I have done a lot of looking into the institutions people have mentioned, and am quite taken with the Nationwide!

Has anyone got any experience good or bad re this building society? Also, can you bank with them at the Post office?

Many thanks

With the Nationwide you can get cash on a debit card at a Post Office and check your account balance. You can't pay in though. (This is a recent development and is not well advertised, but I've both withdrawn cash and checked my balance in recent weeks)

hummm, very interesting. I don't often pay money in, so that doesn't matter, but to be able to withdraw cash is perfect as I'm very rural and only a few minutes away from a PO, but miles away from town.

Thanks for answering, much appreciated.

You might want to think about Alliance and Leicester as well. You can also pay in cash at a PO with your card and it's creditted immediately, and there's a cheque deposit service (you hand the cheques in in an envelope over the counter and they send it special delivery to the porocessing centre overnight)

I'd say both give good current account service. (I use both and have never had any problems that haven't been put right quickly) The Nationwide's special edge is in overseas transactions being commission free.

i'd recommend Natiowide to anyone....they are very good.

If you go abroad much, then Nationwide's FlexAccount (their standard current account) is excellent because they do not charge you for withdrawing cash abroad, anywhere. They also give a good exchange rate, so you don't get fleeced that way either. I have a FlexAccount just to use when I go on holiday (I reckon it saved me at least 250 when I was travelling for 6 months in 2004).

I believe it is the only account which does not charge for foreign ATM transactions.
