I was watching YouTube video earlier. Went to the kitchen to find it was switched off. Black screen on my return .

Usually the standby switch is on at all times.

I've tried removing the plug a while. When I plug it in the standby light is on, but as soon as I try to switch it on the standby light goes out.

I've tried holding the on off switch a minute or so as recommended in a trouble shooting guide..makes no difference.

Any ideas please. It's a Highsence 40" about 4 yrs old.

When the standby light goes out try pressing 1

turn it off at the plug for a good 20 to 30 minutes.  I know it is long but hopefully it will work

Thank you Barry1010 & jennyjoan..Sadly neither try works.

I wasn't planning on  buying a TV at this time!!

Check that the power cable is in firmly at the back of the TV. It might have just worked loose.

If that doesn't solve it ....

Are you switching it on with a remote control? If so change the batteries.

Incidentally, you can check whether the remote is working by pointing it at a digital camera/smartphone and pressing any button on the remote. If the remote is working you will see the small transmitter on the front of the remote flashing - the phone/camera sensor is sensitive to the IR light the remote sends to the TV, your eye isn't.

What's all this about internet services switching off? My samsung tv is telling me BBC iplayer won't be available "on this device" after 30 Oct. & I'll need plug in summat else to continue receiving it. Anyone know?

davebro, it is either licensing agreement between Samsung and BBC has come to an end or BBC will be updating iPlayer and it will not be compatible with your TV.

It might work through your DVD player, if you have one. Otherwise you will need to buy a Roku, Amazon Fire stick or similar

or cast from your computer

thx Barry - I have a firestick but not used it much, will have to get to grips with the navigation.

Davebro, There is a list on iplayer of which samsung tvs are compatible with the bbc. it seems that if they think your model no loger meets their criteria for producing a good picture then you lose the service.

it's quite old - I guess that's why

some of the other catch-up services dropped out a while ago
