BBC One O'Clock News, Thursday:

Gene Hackman, his wife and their pet dog were found dead yesterday at their home in Los Angeles. There are no suspicious circumstances.

BBc Morning News, Friday:

Gene Hackman, his wife and their pet dog were found yesterday at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Police suspect foul play and say there is now an ongoing investigation.

There's nothing like accurate news reporting is there? And that was nothing like.....etc etc.

The first report was probably based on a statement issued by the police.

The reports might be accurate. The police may have since found evidence to suggest foul play.

Tomorrow they might have a different opinion.

I never thought it was a gas leak or carbon monoxide poisoning

OP was having a go at BBC News...but, as barry has pointed out, it was a needless criticism.

All the news outlets, online and broadcast, were saying the same thing yesterday.

It would have been better to insert "police say/believe" before "there are no suspicious.... "

Might remain a bit of a mystery. Dead dog in a cupboard, 2 other dogs alive, door to the property open, no signs of an intruder.

With 2 rich, elderly (95 & 65) people living there I would have thought they might have regular (daily?) domestic help, but hey...

65 is not elderly.

It is my book  65 elderly, 95 old, but why quibble - wrong side of bed again barry?

Gene Hackman was reclusive, not everyone likes having people in their homes.  Nothing is really private when you have domestic help.

def wrong side of bed then🤣

I'm a very happy chap today - a ray of sunshine, as usual

It never fails to amaze me how low the anti-BBC brigade will sink to justify their bigotry.....etc etc.

I've just read an Evening Standard report, posted an hour ago, which quotes detectives as saying, "While there is no immediate indication of foul play, investigations are still in the preliminary stages."

"There was no indication of a struggle..no indication that anything was missing from the home or disturbed that would be an indication that there was a crime that had occurred."

In some of yesterday's reports, it was suggested that the door to the property was open, yet the pest-controller who reported he could see the wife on the floor maintained he could not enter the property as the doors were locked.

A case for Columbo?

"It never fails to amaze me how low the anti-BBC brigade will sink to justify their bigotry.....etc etc."

Who's justifying the BBC's bigotry?

A bit late, but thanks for the replies folks.

The news reports just seemed rather anomalous to me.

This is obviously a job for agent 86 being assisted by agent 99.

Please feel free to use the cone of silence
