"A new four-lane highway cutting through tens of thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest is being built for the COP30 climate summit in the Brazilian city of Belém."

Not much surprises me but even I am staggered at such utter hypocrisy. Time to put the "COP" meeings out of our misery, I fancy.

Whats the bettin Mr Milliband will attend.

You surely don't think they'll simply cut down the trees and leave them lying to rot do you?

Of course not, they'll be taken away to be transformed into tiny pieces and burned in a place named for a Bond villain thereby making everything alright and the planet safe.

What they really need is horse whipping and plenty of it.

Don’t forget all the private jets (carrying their VIP guests) flying in from all over the world for the jamboree.

Pure hypocrisy. They are ALL just in it for the junketting and to hell with the climate. 👿

You really couldnt make it up could you?

But there again, yet something else that shows they really dont belive in the hogwash they promote and that its simply for them to line their pockets from tax payers.  Aided and abetted by the light minded ecozealots like Milliband.

Top to put the whole net zero rubbish to bed.  Lets tackle pollution instead, that would have much better gains and is measurable as well so no lining pockets with false claims.

btw When they finish the project the A9 dualling farce could do with expert advice on roadbuilding.

If only there where places that already had suitable roads to them. Better still surely some boffin can come up with a system where people can have meetings without travelling. How's Greta Funbird getting there?

09:03 They could have the summit in Inverness, that has roads already.

Yeah, saw that. Unbelievable. If they needed a main highway to the city it should scout around areas needing preserving. To use the COP meeting as an excuse is beyond the Pale.  In fact it's straight through the rainforest !

I wonder where the airport to land the private jets/helcopters will be?  Woudlnt surprise me if they they built one of those too.

Sickening.  Time to kick this nonsense into touch.  I agree with YMB.  Let's put our energies - and our money - into cleaning up the planet.  Our oceans and our wildlife could well and truly benefit.

It is sick.

The state government of Pará had touted the idea of this highway, known as Avenida Liberdade, as early as 2012, but it had repeatedly been shelved because of environmental concerns.

Now a host of infrastructure projects have been resurrected or approved to prepare the city for the COP summit.

The fact that Brazil clears rainforest is not new or a surprise. It seems that the conference has given the perfect opportunity to do more of it!  Hopefully the conference will mean that less happens in the future. I doubt it though ...

Absolutely beyond parody.  So after the COP30 climate summit they'll be putting it all back how it was?!

Any word from the climate change protesters? They must be tying themselves up in knots with this one.

Just stop soil?

Or they've found the root of the problem.
