Perhaps if you insert your start up/rescue disc into the floppy drive and start you computer it might be able to find the cd rom player.
Are both your CD and CDRW drives detected in the BIOS? http://www.sysopt.com/biosdef.html
Are you using a windows operating system? If so try the "add new hardware" wizard to locate the CD rom and install a driver for it - if windows hasn't got the right driver then you should be able to get the appropriate driver on the internet. If DOS then you should be able to get a generic DOS CD driver on the internet anyway. After you've got the CD ROM working you can re-install the CDRW easily. If i've got the wrong end of the stick with regards the problem then please give more details and i will help. Finally www.microsoft.com has a bloody good knowledge base if that helps
