1972 fashion?

I don't actually know where to put this question but if anyone has a better idea please tell me!

I have a 1972 bright red Triumph Stag it's in fab condition and has featured in a few magazines and on the TV. We often take it to car shows with the rest of the club (God that makes me sound a real anorak but I'm not I promise!). Annnnyway when we go we always put on music like TRex etc. I thought this year it might be quite good fun to dress appropriatly for the period, now I was 13 in 1972 but I can't quite remember what the fashions were that summer I have a feeling it was long peasant skirts, bell sleeved t shirts, crocheted waistcoats, love beads and ankle tie sandals (which I know sounds pretty much like this years fashion) but can I pick your brains for the epitome of a 1972 summer wardrobe please including colours? I have looked on the internet but I often find that these sites do not really represent the true 'everyday' fashions. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It was the year of 'loons' apparently. I don't actually know, preferring dungarees and nappies at the time.

Huge platform shoes, cheesecloth shirts, smiley face jewellery.

You are right about the crochet waistcoats. I remember bright yellows and oranges. Browns too.

Grandad vests with the shoelace ties at the neck, skinny rib jumpers, long long skirts and wide wide trousers.

summer of 1972 I had just left school and I bought this fab kaftan from dottie P's and wore it with brown skin tight cord brown jeans. I know the faftan was pale brown with a laura ashley swirl pattern. Oh and I wore desert boots, (or jesus sandals)

Ah, the year I got married - wearing wide, wide purple trousers and purple suede boots with huge platform soles and a purple cape. Oh dear!!

Ah buy markja, I was a dedicated follower of fashion in those days (but also liked to shock!). I wish I still had those boots. I loved them!
