the Britannia at Leith is worth a look; have a go at the literary tours as well - take you round the old pubs with sriters associations - remember the one you like and go back as and when.; do the 'Trainspotting' Tour in Leith as well; climb Arthurs Seat - with a bottle or two and chill out for a bit; go to a concert in the Castle esplanade.

Take the train to Glasgow and have a look round; trip out to Queensferry and the Forth Rail bridge - drinks at the Hawes Inn - famous for 'Kidnapped' by RLS, fave son of the city. Come at Hogmany for the fireworks. Do the Tattoo in August, and catch the acts in the International festival for some culture.
Tons to do, lots of choices ....and don't forget the right money for the bus.......and if you come in August, make sure oyu book accommodation really early - prices get hiked and the avialability is limited.
