learning on a 500 direct access

can i ride a 500cc motor bike with out a instructor being with me. ive just passed my cbt , am 35yrs old and want to go for direct access course but dont know what bike am allowed to learn on.

If I've read the information on the DVLA website correctly, you're restricted to a maximum of 125cc:

Quote 1:
"You may practice for the practical test on bikes larger than the learner bike specification provided:
* you are accompanied at all times by an approved instructor on another bike and in radio contact
* you wear fluorescent or reflective clothing and follow all other provisional licence restrictions"

Quote 2:
"A learner motorcycle has an engine up to 125 cc and a power output not exceeding 11 kW"

If you're over 30 years old you can ride your 500cc. enjoy!

You can NOT ride a 500cc bike with just a cbt licence no matter how old you are.

Buenchico's answer is completely right.

If you could, no one would fork out the �500 for the DAS course. Motorbikes are specialist vehicles and need complete training - not just learning how to stop and go around some cones with the cbt test.

Buenchico is correct. My daughter and her husband took their tests after a concentrated course of instruction on their 600cc bikes. [ Kawasaki and Suzuki].
Be very careful out there!
