I puchased an MX5 Jasper Conran in 2001 and for the 1st 3 years I had it serviced by the Mazda dealers. The next 2 services were performed by a guy recommended by the MX5 owners club, who was a good deal closer & somewhat cheaper.I noticed a whiring sound (nothing to do with the service I might add) so took it back to the dealers, who told me that it was the lay shaft or 1st shaft and would cost little short of 800!!! Bearing in mind at this time the car had only done 19000 miles from new. It was the most expensive MX5 that Mazda had produced, a Jasper Conran special.. I was told I had no redress with Mazda because they hadn't serviced it the last 2 times. I am a young ar heart pensioner & I love the car, I had it when I retired, I find it a little unfair & it would be difficult to find the money, I have written to Mazda but drew a blank!! Any advice would be welcome.
