Ethel or anyone who can advise, please can you help?
I have both AVG an Spybot Search & Destroy on my computer. I also have my google popup blocker set at the highest level and yet I still get a fair amount of advertising pop ups coming though. All my security settings are set quite high, but nothing seems to stop the popups from appearing. I have been running spybot every day, but this doesn't seem to be helping either . Can anyone recommend a fee popup blocker / anti-spyware program? Many thanks.

I run it once a fortnight or so.
If you are still having problems, turn off your system restore, reboot the computer and start in safe mode. Then run all your security programmes again.
Don't forget to turn the system restore back on though!
I find far less pop ups occur in Firefox than IE, so you may want to consider using that, if you don't already.
Have a read of this page too - all the links are up to date, and all the software is free, and safe.

I'll add my support to Ethel's suggestion of switching to Firefox. (It's far better than IE anyway). The pop-up blocker runs automatically under Firefox's default settings but it can be configured to allow certain pop-ups through if you need to view them on a particular site:

Another brilliant safeguard is Site Advisor. The logo changes colour according to the safety of the site. Green, yellow and red.
Very helpful for avoiding innocuous looking sites, but with hidden dangers lurking at a mouse click.
