I thought it sounded like the start of "Highway Star" by Deep Purple, but don't hold me to it, I wasn't 100% sure.

i dont know if this is what your talking about, but the theme tune to the series was In The Bath by Lemon Jelly. the bit you heard may have been abit from that! hope that helps
