Boot up screen

Hi i was wondering if anyone can help,for a few months now it takes me nearly 7 minutes to boot up as the splash screen saying Intel pentium 4 inside stays onthe screen for about 31/2 minutes,can anyone tell me if they have experienced this or anyone know how to rectify this as it is really starting to pee me off.............

I had problems shutting down - it would hang at the windows page - so I downloaded a registry fixer - ran that - cleaned it up a bit and it seemed to work. Have you managed the amount of programs that start when you turn on your PC ? It may also be taking a while because it needs the disk cleanup program to run.

I've managed startup progs and used XP Repair Pro but it's still the same,how would i check if disk cleanup is running................

This may seem ridiculous, but have you got anything plugged into any USB ports? I recently had a problem where my laptop took absolutely ages to boot up, and in the end I accidently discovered that if I unplugged my printer from the USB ports,my laptop would boot up fine.I have absolutely no idea why I had this problem,and it now seems to have rectified itself.

Thats weird - if I have my ipod lead (not ipod itself) connected to the usb ports, my pc won't start up at all either.

If you go to Start - All prorgrams - accessories - system tools - Disk cleanup and follow the instructions -it usualy takes a few mins and cleans a load of junk up. It wouldn't be running normally - it may help.

The splash screen is the motherboard not windows xp, changing your startup programs will have no effect. My father had this problem, was a faulty power supply. If your computer does/ever starts turning off mid use then that would probably confirm it. It's a possibility at least.

As mikeyp says, the splash screen you are seeing is at the very start of the boot process, while the computer is performing its POST tests, and long before it is even aware of the operating system, so looking for a software fix is a total waste of time.

I have seen this problem with many machines under some or all of these circumstances:

There is an all-in one printer connected via USB
There is a USB memory stick connected
There is a card reader connected (very common)
There is a CD or DVD in the Drive
The CD/DVD drive is set as the first boot device.
The disk drive is set to Master but the controller is UDMA (should be set to cable select)

Thank you everyone and to mikeyp my pc does reboot itself especially when my wife is playing hoyle spite & malice so it maybe power supply.
So does that mean i have to get a new one or is it a connection problem............
