What is the annual fee for the Egg Card?
There is no annual fee for the Egg Card.
As you want a card for emergency use only it is hard to recommend a particular company - zero or low rates now may be promotional for a few months, and then have a high interest rate.

You may Hate them, detest them, think they are complete rip-off ********, scum of the earth etc. etc. but the fact remains that the banks are in business to exist.
Would you personally, be on hand to help me out only when I got into trouble? just be there for emergencies? for which I would not expect to pay you one penny?
I think you have a cheek to post your question or is it a wind-up?

I see nothing wrong with the question - in fact I have two credit cards I use just for emergencies. It's a very sensible thing to do.
I have cash for emergencies in a high interest account - but I can't access that if I'm stuck away from home and need money urgently.
Once the emergency has been dealt with, there is time to either pay it off with cash or get a better deal elsewhere.
Don't forget - each time you use a credit card, the company gets at least 2.5%, even if the balance is paid in full next day. The company accepting the card pays it.
I have not paid any interest, penalties or any sort of charge on any credit card for years.

It may be that wellard has read the question as the charge being interest due on a balance that you have run up? That is my guess anyway! I agree with wellard that banks are in business and of course you have to pay for services as you would any other business. But I think you are talking about an annual fee. If this is right, then as Ethel states, Egg do not charge an annual fee for their cards. I wonder if this is some kind of payment protection insurance that you have unwittingly signed up for? May be worth checking?
I agree that an emergency card is a good idea to have.
I use Goldfish that have no annual fee and give you points that you can exchange for vouchers with certain companies. My partner uses Morgan Stanley, they also offer cash back. Sorry do not know what apr they charge though as we both pay off the balance each month.
Try a comparison site like Moneysupermarket.com to find the most suitable card for you. Best of luck, Sue

No annual fee credit cards are best-suited to those people who reserve the use of their credit card for emergencies. The Capital One Platinum Prestige, Capital One VentureOne and Citi Platinum are the top introductory zero interest offers. These credit cards also provide you extra reward program. Low interest credit cards offer a reasonable way to reduce rising debt.
