I Recently backed up a quantity of my i-tunes library on to cd's in order to free space on my hard drive. Having installed a new larger hard drive ,I now wish to re-install to my i-tunes library, but find I am getting no individual track info, only track numbers. I would be most grateful if anyone could inform me how to correct this .

Did you burn them to disk as an audio CD (it'll play in normal CD players) or as a data CD?

If it was as an audio CD then all the tracks will be called Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, etc. So I guess iTunes wont recognize the CD. I don't know how iTunes works (I've never used it) but I would guess it queries a database of known CDs for the track info.
