That really beggars belief ! I was excusing his ignorance because I believed him to be ignorant to the facts but the fact that he actually works at the clinic offering this new injection is astounding. To hear the young age of his daughter is really peculiar as well because I could just about understand his irrational fears if he was worrying over his teenage daughter's behaviour (but even then , I would still struggle to understand how he could actually believe that having this injection would lead to promiscuity.) but to hear that she is in actual fact only nine years old is incredulous.
I also agree with you when you say that he should educate his daughter properly about the dangers of unprotected sex and explain that the injection does not protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections , although I do not think that perhaps nine years old is an appropriate age for that type of conversation. Let's be honest though , the current breed of teenagers and their attitude towards sex leaves a lot to be desired. When I was at school (i'm 31) , the average age a girl lost her virginity at was 17 but nowadays , this would be a subject of ridicule for many. Indeed , it's scary to think how many teenagers rush into losing their virginity at such a tender age , so as far as I am concerned , the younger the better for young girls BEFORE they even start to have sexual thoughts.
I wonder though whether he found the idea of having his daughter protected by immunisation against Mumps , Measles , Rubella etc to be totally abhorrent. In my opinion , this injection should be viewed as nothing more than a routine injection to ensure the continuing well being of his daughter in the future. It's as simple as this , if she wants to have sex , then she will - regardless of whether or not she has had this injection so his reasoning is severely flawed. Let's just hope that his wife vetoes his ludicrous decision.
