DVD Media Speeds
Hi all you lovely people out there. Could you please help me with a query about DVD media.
At the moment, I'm using a NEC ND3500AG DVD writer to burn movies onto discs. I was using 4x standard 4.7GB DVD - R media but now I've discovered I get excellent results with no coasters when I use Datawrite Yellow 8x 4.7GB DVD-R discs.
I need to buy more discs and I've seen for sale my Datawrite Yellow discs but with a speed of 16x. I've not tried 16x discs before.
What I'd like to know is do you think these Datawrite 16x discs, or any other make for that matter, would be compatible with my drive? I don't fully understand this speed rating business but I would like to stick to discs I know are reliable. Do you think that I might need a firmware update to use 16x discs as the drive was an oem version bought not long after it came on the market.
The other thing I've noticed is that sometimes when I'm about to burn a disc in Nero Smart Start at 8x speed on my boyfriend's computer, the software states in the program window after disc analysis that it can only burn the disc in the drive at 4x speed. Why would this be? Does it have something to do with the speed rating of the disc?
Thanks for all your help. Love jadyn.
