I'm struggling to create DVD's from camcorder recordings
I have a Sony HDD camcorder, a DVD Hard Drive/Recorder and a laptop. I have managed to copy direct from the camcorder to the DVD Hard Drive, then on to Recordable DVD. My problem is that when I transferred from camcorder to DVD Hard Drive I was out of the room when it finished, so it has recorder about 30 minutes of the screen that shows you what is on the camcorder's hard drive. I want to be able to chop this off the end, put more recordings on the same DVD, basically perform fairly easy edit functions. What I am trying to do is to transfer my camcorder recordings to DVD and for them to be as neat as possible. If possible I don't really want to spend loads on software. Please help. Thanks

If the recording is on the DVD hard drive you can simply edit the spare bit off the end before committing to DVD.
How you do this will vary with each machine but on my Sony I go to title list, select the programme I want then press right arrow and choose edit. This brings up another selection for title edit, trim, add chapters etc. Choose trim then select a region on the timeline and press ok. This will produce a clean cut at the in and out points, ideal for getting rid of advert breaks in films.
If it is already on the DVD, again you can omit this bit before finalising but unless the DVD is a re writeable you will not regain this half hour of space. Best thing to do is to tidy up the recordings before putting onto DVD.
