Peugeot 205 warning light

I have a 1989 Peugeot 205 and I was on the motor way when a red warning light came on that I haven't seen before. It is below the fuel gauge on the right hand side and looks like a saucepan lid with 3 wavy horizontal lines under it. Any ideas? I think it might be that it needs coolant, in which case do I need to take it to a garage for this?

Check the water it means low coolant.

try topping it up your self with some antifreeze from halfords any problems ask a geek there its cheeper than paying for a garage
