Advert conventions

What are the advert conventions? i believe that is most likely to be a set of rules that is required in all adverts but i don't know what they are? can any one help?

I know that the first and last half-second are silent, the sound kicks in half a second from the start, and finishes half a second from the end.
It is a requirement of all commercials on UK TV.
