Is it worth spending more money to get a laptop with a good name?

Im thinking of buying a new laptop, as I had an advent laptop that broke. The thing im confused about is that I can get (what i think) is a fairly good sony vaio for the same price as an advent laptop which has a much better specification. I realise that they are the same price because you pay more for the Sony name even thought the specification isnt as good, but is it likely to be more reliable? Im just worried about buying a cheap brand again as my last advent laptop didnt last very long, any advice would be appreciated! Ive put the specification below of the 2 laptops im looking at!

Advent 5401 - �450
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5550
(1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB Cache)
3 GB Memory
250 GB Hard drive

or

Sony Vaio - �450

I have a an Advent laptop, it's about 3 years old now, I think I paid about �350 for it, it's been great, never had any problems at all, I think it's a model 7086,old now! but still working fine! I had a Wordpad before this one, it was good, but no better than this one, and much more expensive, so it's not always true that if you buy a great name it'll be better! but I'm sure we have some experts on here that can help you further, they're very good.............hope this helps anyway............welsh
