Has it always been legal to advertise gambling on British television? I don't remember seeing such adverts until fairly recently..

Can shoplifters get a criminal conviction too if they are banned from the store in England?

Television advertising for gambling (other than the National Lottery and certain specific activities, such as bingo) was not permitted before 1 September 2007, when the relevant provisions of the Gambling Act 2005 came into effect.
