I am attempting to promote my website and get a better ranking on the popular search engines,  I have been through the usual motions of submitting my URL to search engines and adding keywords and meta tags, but are still not getting any where.

I have heard that there is a process called search engine optimsation where you use a network of reciprocal links to buildyour popularity, how can this be done? i understand there are companies out there who will do this for me,  but it is so expensive so i wish to know if i could do this myself.

or if there is anyone out there that would be willing to show me how it can be done.

Tomd is right though. Subscribe to forums and use your web address in your signature - and post in guest books. The robots pick up these links and before long your listings improve. It works. You could also try this site:

In view of your last paragraph, I am happy to discuss these with you. But Answerbank rules don't allow the posting of email addresses. So do a google.com search for unusual wine labels and contact the owner of the site at no 1 position.

Think carefully before you take up the suggestion of using web submission programmes or companies. They will submit to loads of search engines that no-one ever uses.Many search engines will penalise you for doing automated submissions. And don't pay a lot of cash for empty promises, not everyone can be at the top spot. Not unless you want to pay a lot of money.
