RSPCA TV Adverts - again

Have been counting and most commercial adverts take about 15-20 seconds. RSPCA today took 5mins! Have you been donating?

perhaps they should cut down the length of their adverts and save some money.

Hi, I WAS donating, till I heard how much the RSPCA had in savings. I think it was something like 14million in icelandic banks.

On that basis, I have reduced my donation by 50% (how many other charities can afford to save that sort of money?).

I now donate to Compassion In World Farming instead, as they are putting their money to good use rather than hoarding it in bank accounts.

My mum donates to the WSPCA - they do a lot of good work internationally. Their ads are extremely effective because they really tug on the heart strings. I guess thats the power of advertising.

Do charities have to pay to advertise?

Perhaps someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not the case that although the adverts are broadcast nationwide then all the monies collected goes to England and not a penny goes to the SSPCA. Not sure what the situation is in Wales and Northern Ireland, so can't comment.
The Scots see these adverts and because there's nothing on the advert to tell them otherwise, then they donate thinking they're helping care for animals in Scotland.
Can anyone please shed some light on this situation .

Yes, charities do have to pay to advertise. If it was free i think we would see many more charities doing it. That's why you tend only to see the bigger charities on tv ads.

However, depending who they are advertising with, the charity may be able to negotiate a special rate, and i'm pretty sure that registered charities don't pay VAT on advertising.
