cap down hole where oil goes
2 Answers
im very stuck and i need some advice on what to do or something
inside the engine where the camshaft is you have the rockers and the vales and theres that cap that the rocker goes on to well one of the lil cap has gone the the hole ont he right side of engine where the oil goes down and eventually down to the sump
i just can't get it out ive put a magnet down to try and get it up but its not picking up anythin from either of the 2 holes im guessing it has gotten stuck but i have no idea how to get it out, any suggestions?
also i didnt knock it down there a mobile mechanic did because he is putting engine back together properly because the head gasket had gone and ive had it skimmed etc etc
we've even taken down the sump off to see if it had gone to sump but i just don't know how to get it or if there is anyway of getting it, he reckons the engine should run fine if i just leave it down there and get another 1 from a vauxhall dealer because it shudn't cause any problems,
but i was talking to someone and they reckoned it has to come out if not it cudnt cause a blockage or sumthing and i just don't know what to do, help!

However I am to believe you dropped a small cap down the oil drains, then you have failed to find the cap in the sump, obviously having drained out the oil.The drain plug is magnetic it could be stuck there.
Since you say the head was off, could it be this cap dropped in the water jacket thats why you can not find it in the sump?
If you are sure its NOT in the air intake or on top of the piston you need not worry about it finding its way where more damage can be done. LOOK hard beore you give up though.

Hi, reading your post, I take it you where helping or observing the Mobile Mechanic doing the Job? also I take it that you paid this person to do the Job for you? If this is the case & he / she knocked the cap down the return oil way then the onus & responsibility is his / her, If the mechanic states that the engine will run fine!!!!!!! this I doubt get this in writing & state if the outcome of this error ( lost cap) is your engine is damaged then it's up to him / her to sort it out, this in-turn should give the mechanic room to think about his actions & knowledge & what could happen, just a last comment, do not take any Bull sht answers after all you are paying for the job to be done & done properly.
