Hi guys can anyone tell me if I will be able to renew a Landrover cylinder head gasket myself, the engine block looks huge & I'm wondering if I would even manage to lift the head off, I would also need to know the bolting down sequence. TIA.

If you have the knowledge, yes you can, if not, leave it to someone in the know, the cost of the work can be reduced a hell of a lot by yourself taking off the head! do you know where to start? If you do make sure you mark everything even take a photo before you start is a good Idea, If & when you get down to the head bolts, get yourself a Corn Flakes Empty box for the Push rods & mark the board as, I Left top, - 1 Left bottom & so on until all have been cleaned & removed, with the Lifting eyes in place each end of the head try a BAR in each of the eyes & rock the head until the seal has been broken, an Idea is to have help with the lift that way you have no fear of dropping the head onto the block, If you know of a local Engineering comp that deals in head skimming take the head there & get it pressure tested at the same time, they also sell the gasket sets, get yourself a full set of Aux belts, New thermostat, Anti freeze, & sealant for the replacement of the parts, then get someone to fit the head, this way you save a lot of money.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
some very good advice from TWR there,
don't make the same mistake as i did on one land rover, i let some coolant run into the bolt holes in the cylinder block, and promptly forgot about it, when I started reassembly, i put the head bolts down on top of the water,
Now, everybody knows that water will not compress, so something had to give, and in this case it was the cylinder block, ver expensive mistake,
so drain off first, blow the bolt holes out with compressed air before rebuilding,
