I can remember the advert for Strand. That poor man hanging about in shop doorways with his cigarette while all around him were happy couples heading off somewhere nice. Hilarious! Who was the actor?

the first one ever shown on ITV was for Colgate and that "ding" Ring of Confidence
It was SR Gibbs toothpaste. The first one in colour was Bird's Eye Peas.

Hotpoint Ice Diamond fridges. I thought they were VERY glam... The woman (permanently smiling) was dressed in a 50s dress, very nipped in at the waist.
Oh, of course, the OXO family and also Joan and Leslie Randall advertising some sort of soap powder.

The ad I never forget ----- the esso sign means happy motoring. A cartoon type ad with a decent musical jingle.
Would never get past the pc brigade today though.

The one advertising train travel with a carriage full of ladies singing "Oh we travel Intercity like the men do, intercity sitting pretty etc" as though it was a huge privilege for women to be allowed out on their own for the day on a train.
Boom, boom, boom, boom.....Esso blue...You don't see many adverts for paraffin nowadays.
