If anyone remembers a (possibly) French-made cartoon about the human body that was shown early-morning Sunday on Channel 4 in the '80s, they get the smug honour of being the only person on the whole of the Interweb with such a splendid memory.

At the start of every episode, a boy or girl would do something stupid like trip over a log and graze their leg. Or, like a complete moron, catch a cold or something. The rest of the episode would be how the kid's antibodies and white blood cells and stuff (in the form of little space-age soldier guys in flying ships - think Starship Troopers with the appearance of Bob the Builder) would zap the invading virus/germs (in the form of gloopy mud monsters) with lasers. The antibodies were commanded by some bearded chap who resided in the brain, natch.

The title of the show could possibly be along the lines of The Story of Life, but it's probably completely different as my memory tends to be stupid. Heck, it's telling me that the theme tune went "#Ohhhh, life#" at some point so it's quite clear that my memory really isn't to be trusted.

Its called the human body.  Its based on some books by usbourne i think!

I have asked this question so many times and nobody knows about it! I have serached every and cannot even remember the name of the show!  It may have been something along the lines of "The Human Body"?  I remember the red blood cell soldiers and the white bearded man (not Jesus) and the little pods that the kids used to fly around in.  I wanted to be there with them.

Do I get a certificate?

Please.

Ginger - great minds think alike!

ermintrude - how did you know it was french?

there was a little red blood cell girl called globina have got the full collectors set of books somewhere. Watched when i was kid at about six in the morning!!!!
I have a vague recollection of what your talking about, it was the early morning thing that reminded me, I remember getting up while it was still dark and no one else being around and watching it. I will do my best to find out what this was as my memeory is even more hazey than yours and I would love to remember properly.

Right I got it. Firstly thanks for reminding me about this, it's made me feel all warm and fuzzy, a proper childhood memory, I was 5 when it was around.

It was French and was part of a series of of teaching programs designed for children, it's french title was "Il tait une fois... la vie" translating to English as "Once Upon a Time... Life" so it was the Life version of the Once Upon A Time series.

I found a french site about it with a picture that brought back memories, I put it through a translation website, follow this loink to have a look.

Punk daddy keep us informed it's been driving me crazy for years and I've googled every possible phrase that could possibly be linked to the programme all day.  Don't tell my boss.

Wow, you Godlike person.

But how did you know what year it was out?

You're fab.

Being good at internet searching isn't something to be proud of, it means I spend too much time doing it. I found an entry on the Internet Movie DataBase ( http://www.imdb.com ) for the French title and it had the date of 1986 next to it, it could have been after that thinking about it, it was probably when it was made in French, so I was probably between 5 and 7. But it is a vague memory so nearer 5 methinks.

If your searching on the net search for the French title, otherwise you just get forums with people asking this question on them, the French title gets you French sites, but you can translate em at: http://world.altavista.com/

I can't help but keep checking!

I have a deep longing now to hunt it down and watch, alas I think we may only have our memories.

I'd have only been 3 or 4 years old so my memories are pretty hazy to say the least, I guess it could have played through the late 80's aswell.

..alas in 86 I was 17..and used to watch it when I got in from a Sat. night out!..so my memory was also hazy..err to say the least...
There was a spinoff series of hardback books - educational of course - called How My Body Works in 1992. All the characters are pictured on the inside covers of each book, 50 odd in total. The Professor directs the body's defence system. He and Metro protect your body. Globus, Plasmus and Globina are the red blood cells. Captain Courageous, Ace and Corpo, white blood cells. Their enemies include Virulus, the virus and Toxicus, the bacterium, Germus and Infectus. I built up the complete set at the time, but you can still buy  them on the ABEBOOKS website.Orbis publishing.
Wow tpfan, I'm gonna have a look for them.  In fact, the title rings a bell with me and and I'm certain I may have had one myself, I'm sure my neice would like them (and an excuse forme to have a good look again too!).

Natalie_1982 and others, I have a set of these books in fabulous order, from number 1 to 65. The set is almost complete minus the following: 16, 30 and 33. If you're interested in this set, then let me know via this forum
