PROBLEMS IMPORTING VIDEOS TO IPOD NANO

Hi

Hopefully someone can help with this one !

I have an iPod Nano 8GB and have had no problems uploading music to it. However, upon trying to upload videos I've encountered a strange problem ....

The videos are music videos which are stored in 'My Music' on my PC .... when I import them to the iPod on iTunes, they appear to transfer and appear under the 'Videos' library, however, when I sync the iPod, my PC indicates that it cannot find a disk at E:/ it then asking me if I wish to 'cancel', 'try again' or 'continue' .... when I select any of these, iTunes immediately indicates that the sync is complete, but the videos don't copy from iTunes to the iPod .... yet they still appear to be in the 'Videos' library ....

To confuse the issue further, when I go to 'My Network Places', E:/ is the iPod connected to my PC so how on earth can I insert a disk into that ???!!!!

As I say, the videos I'm trying to move are already stored on my PC and a disk shouldn't be required to import them ....

Have you tried syncing the videos manually instead of automatically?

apple like u 2 pay for videos from them.had same prob with my ipod,got rid of it then bought a cheap 8 gig mp3 player.auto convrts itself no probs,i couldnt get it 2 convert naff all video from pc,ther is programs 2 do this but u have 2 pay i didnt find any freebies

Sorry Dave but you are way off the mark. iTunes doesn't care whether they are free or not, there is no real way to check, whether they are free (stolen downloads) or free (your video of Grannie's 90th birthday).Steve, you use the word imported, I don't think there is an "import" command in iTunes (but I use the Mac version not PC, perhaps Chuck or VHG could dive in here). It seems like you haven't located the files in the right place. Your nano would expect to sync music files from "music" but video from "movies".
Can you go through how you actually tried to do this again?

First things first...
A video is a video, not a music track.
So it SHOULD be in videos.
I guess you could see what format the video is (M-Peg, Avi, Wmv) and see what your iPod is compatible with.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this one for me .... to go through it ....

I have a couple of music videos which I have already copied to my own 80GB iPod Classic .... no issues there and the videos copy over and appear in the 'Movies' area of that iPod's library ....

However, when I try to copy them to my son's 8GB iPod Nano, that's when the problems start ....

In his iTunes without the iPod Nano connected, I click on 'File', then 'Add File To Library' .... my PC then opens up 'My Music' where all my music, music videos, etc are stored .... I then double-click on the music video which is in an MPEG-4 Movie format .... iTunes seems okay with copying the video and the video then appears in 'Movies' in iTunes .... I repeat that for the second music video and, again, that appears to copy over also with no issues ....

I then plug in the iPod, synchronisation between the iPod and iTunes begins, and I then get the error message I made mention of .... Windows appears to go looking for a disk at the 'E' Drive (the 'E' Drive being the iPod !) and, when it apparently can't find a disk, I get the 'Cancel', 'Try Again' or 'Continue' options .... upon selecting any one of them, iTunes indicates the synchronisation is complete but the videos have not been copied to the iPod yet still appear in iTunes ....

I can't understand why I copied them with no issues to my own iPod and am now having the difficulties I've indicated with my son's ....

The software on both iPods is up to date.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Stevie, do you and your son have physically different itunes libraries (different accounts on your PC or do you use different playlists to sync each of your ipods?

Different iTunes accounts on the same PC .... use the SHIFT key while opening iTunes which allows us to select which iPod we wanna work with ....

I think what is happening is that when you click Add to Library, you add the track details but you do not move the location of the file into the library. ITunes media doesn't have to be in its library but it makes life a lot easier if it is. Go into iTunes preferences, click Advanced, check whether Copy Files To Media Folder When Copying To Library has a tick or not. If not this is probably the cause. Tick it and close.
Delete the track from your son's itunes library and readd
