What exactly is Pimms?

I had a rather large glass of it tonight with lemonade and i was squiffy to say the least! so what exactly is it?

Apparently it`s a secret recipe so nobody really knows what it is. it`s not that alcoholic (25%) but depends how much you put in!

Well I suppose if you use a long glass as you`re supposed to, you would put in about and inch at the bottom and fill it up with all the bits such as lemonade or soda, mint, strawberries or whatever else you fancy. Just don`t add vodka like my friend does!

And I think that you are obligated, whilst drinking it, to nibble on watercress sandwiches with nary a crust upon them......I think.

.... and don't forget the sliced cucumber! It's actually a gin-based concoction. Not too potent if you don't have much of it - but definitely turns into falling down water if you do overdo it!

I see it as a posher version of Martini Rosso. A fortified wine with a blend of spices.

Pimms is something I really miss after giving up the booze - trouble is you tend to make it up real strong at home and it's one of those things you can sit in the garden in the summer drinking and before fore you know it you've finished most of a bottle.

And I have had some of my worst hangovers from it!

I had one two many Pimms in the garden last night. As Jake says, it is pretty easy to quaff quite a bit without realising. Yummy though.

Pimm's #1 is gin based. I make mine with a good shot of Pimm's over ice. Add slice of apple, cucumber, halved strawberry (or any bits of soft fruit) and top off with 50/50 cloudy lemonade and Jamaican ginger beer. Stir with a sprig of mint. Repeat as necessary.

You can't have a good Pimms without copious amounts of gin.......5 parts lemonade, 2 parts Pimms, 1 part gin.....

Each Pimms is based on a different spirit.

Pimms's No1 which is the most popular is Gin based

2 is Whiskey 3 Brandy etc.

Wine on average is 9%-16% by volume so 25% by volume is quiet strong, a large glass would be much stronger than than the equivelent measure of Wine
