VW Golf interior
I'm currently fitting new panels to my 1984 Mk2 Golf which I'll then respray. I know from restoring cars years ago that the car will look like new but that will then make the interior look tatty. I'm therefore keeping my eyes open at breakers for a very good interior.
Does anyone know whether the interior of the MK3 and 4 Golfs will fit a Mk2. They certainly seem very similar when I look and many Golf parts are standard across the marks. I've seen a very nice interior in a Mk3 quite a distance from me. I could spend a day going back and trying everything for fit but I don't want to have to mess about making things fit. Door cards and trim are one thing but I'm hoping the seats will all fit straight in. It would be helpful if anyone does know offhand.
I'm not holding out much hope as the fellas at VW aren't sure themselves. Thanks in anticipation though.

Thank you Count. I didn't realise there are forums like that so I'll post the question there.
I think you're right AIBags but the Mk3 seats and fittings do look the same. I used to restore cars years ago so I've rebuilt door cards and trim and altered seats to make them fit but I just don't want to do it any more. I found a good sprayer today so at least I don't have to do that again.
Thanks for the answers.

as i'm a big fan of old vw's and have had a few mk1's and mk2's and worked on them i know mk3 interior fits into a mk2 but i'm not sure if the front seats go straight in or weather you have to take the frame off and put them onto the mk3 interior.
i have seen loads of mk2 gti's with full vr6 interior and look fab.

Thanks Wilkesneil.
The Mk 3 interiors certainly look like they will fit but now I'm actively looking to do that I was hoping someone like you would know offhand. I'm going over to the breakers tomorrow to get the interior.
I've always been impressed with how VW utilise basic parts across the models and years. My car's almost 27 years old but there aren't many parts I can't order new from VW as many were fitted to later cars. If the parts are occasionally no longer stocked by VW someone else has them and everything's very cheap and simple. A few months ago I ordered four new wheel trims which were still in stock in the factory in Germany! They were £5 each! Last week I got new some panels from the factory.Who wants a modern car?
