Strange square symbol

At the end of the Heston Waitrose advert there is a strange square symbol which doesn't seem to be a picture or anything. The symbol is also on a letter that I recently received from the local health authority reminding me about an appointment. Does anyone know what the symbol is for?

On the advert (I just rewound it) there are three outline of a square in all but the bottom right-hand corder and random sqaure dots in the main bit.

Properly known as a 2D barcode.

there are apps for most smartphones that will read them.

Don't how successfully you could 'read' one from a tv sreen though. I thought it a bit odd when I saw it on there.

Waitrose are using a QR Code at the end of the Christ mas TV ad to promote their app, available for iPhone and Android handsets. QR Codes also feature prominently in their print adverts, including explanations of how to scan the codes.

Looks like those maze puzzles, where you start at one end and go through the maze to get to the prize.

My phone can't read that as the original is too blury when on full screen, but that's down to the lowish quality on youtube.

I've just tried a few from your earlier link which are clearer and it reads them fine.

Hmmm ... I have a £2.98 mobile which does calls AND text messaging. That ''whoosh'' you may have heard earlier was iPhone technology going right over my head, lol
