How do I stop mail shots from the RSPCA?
Since donating a considerable amount of money to the RSPCA in 2009 when one of their inspectors took an injured wild swan from our garden for treatment, I have been inundated with letters/mail shots from the Society. I think the organisation does wonderful work & I wish I could donate more but I am a pensioner with limited means. I just cannot donate to every good cause.
I have telephoned their office to ask them to take my details off their data base and I have also written to the Head Office. Sadly no-one takes any notice.
It upsets me when I have to throw all their mail shots in the bin. I think of all the wasted funds being spent on postage that could be directed to helping animals. I have also posted back some of the mail shots but anything I do makes no difference at all.
Can any of you give me an e-mail address so that I can once again make contact without the expense of postage? Please don't suggest putting the mail shots in a plain envelope without a stamp for return. I don't want the RSPCA to incur a penalty payment from the PO.

Thank you for your help, craft1948, I am registered with MPS but it will not help in this particular case. I don't want to stop all mailings, just the ones from the RSPCA. Since the Society has my details because of dealings with them in 2009, I think it has a legitimate reason for contacting me. It's different from cold calling.
RSPCA is a past client of mine.
They can all be quite bad at this - if you are recorded as 'high value' their system will be programmed to have a go for up to 3 years.
I'm sorry! We might have had a hand in actually designing these offending mailpacks!
Anyway, postdog has best solution - if toyr mail is returned as 'Goneaway' it is likely to be removed sooner than later. They won't want their Return in Investment results to be impaired by remailing Goneaways.

Another example, sure i can find many more...
Where was the RSPCA, when reports were made over a period of years, about the Buckinghamshire horse and donkey welfare disaster? When action was finally taken (January 2008), the very expert RSPCA media-machine revelled in media coverage and basked in glory, omitting to mention or explain the RSPCA's inactivity on this case over years. Had there been earlier action, how much suffering could have been averted?

Yes this is a common view of the RSPCA
When we interview supporters of other large animal charities and talk about their motivations there is always a significant proportion who say they do so because the charity is more deserving than the RSPCA.
This is often based on people's personal experiences eg calling for help on behalf of an animal and getting none or because they put unwanted animals down.
The high profile 'greedy' legal cases have, in my opinion, been ill advised and done them a lot of harm.
The one thing i would say about the RSPCA is that they are probably the only animal welfare charity large and powerful enough to pursue criminal prosecutions and exert influence on a national basis and at the highest levels.
