i have a pure black lurcher(6months old) he has a lovely coat but it looks as if he is getting dandruff, what would you suggest?son put him in the shower but did not put shampoo on him because he had his leg amputated and he didnt want any soap near the scar
Yes they sure can, especially noticeable on dark coloured dogs..could be any number of causes, allergy to grass, pollen, or wheat in his food...or simply a dermatitis. Could just be dry skin, but if you have bathed him recently are you 100% sure your son didnt use any human soap/shampoo ?.
I wouldn.t put soap on him slinky, he may be allergic to soaps that we use!..........ask the vet!.........ore use a 'sensitive skin' dog shampoo, that may be ok!............
Yup Slinky, if you need to bathe him, definitely buy a proper shampoo for dogs...his is coat greasy at all ? He could just be under the weather...I doubt its anything to worry about, just a bit of scurf...you could try adding some cod liver oil to his food or evening primrose oil...what do you feed him - dry or wet food ?
i feed him chappie(recommended by the vet and he loves it)also 1 serving of dried food,he gets fed twice a day.his coat is not greasy at all,its very shiny
Ok slinky!...........I would buy some really good quality shampoo for sensitive skin for him, and add some cod liver oil to his food too!................
My little lurcher also has a bit of dander that shows up on the black patch on her back near her tail. I think because their fur is quite fine, and does not have the same sort of growth as non-sighthounds,they are more prone to minor skin irritations. I was giving Sally some oily fish once or twice a week....that should help the skin and fur.
