looking after hamsters

hiya, i'm looking after a friends hamsters and some days they've only eaten half they're food and there's some saw dust in the bowl, i've been tipping it all out and re filling the bowl but is this a waste of food? can i just top the bowl up with food and leave the saw dust in there? thankyou xx

They will often try to take food away and hide it or cover it up with sawdust. What you have said is all perfectly normal,They may only eat once or twice a week at times. You don't need to keep putting new food in just because it's made a mess,It will know exactly where its food is.
