Using a tube heater in a dog kennel

I have a large (4'x3'x3') wooden kennel in my garage for my dog. Has anyone any expericene of using a tube heater in a kennel (suitably guarded of course)?

If it is out of the draught then all your dog should require is plenty of warm bedding.

A friend of mine had some very nice heated kennels, and they really were lovely and warm, with these type.

Thanks for all your answers. We have just one dog and I guess our decision to add heat is coloured by last year's 6-week spell of snow. I was intending to put a thermostatic switch on it so that it came on only in very cold periods.

I'm sure Mr/Mrs Nog takes good care of their dog or they would not have asked about heating the kennel.

It takes a bit more than a heated Kennel to take care of a dog, We wouldn't dream of shutting our dogs in the garage at night.

The need of a thermostatic switch bothers me a little, surely you will now if your dog needs extra heating, someone is at home with your dog?

Nor would I Ratter + I don't have a garage, my point was that the OP came for advice not retribution!
Personally all 5 of mine are house dogs and without the Danes to keep me warm on the sofa and the Yorkies as foot warmers my fuel bills would be considerably higher ;0)

Well the kennel is already inside the garage so its better off than a lot of kenneled dogs. A background heater will stop condensation and keep his bedding dry.

Just to clear up the garage issue. The garage separates the front and back of the house and has 2 doors, one front, one back, both with dog flaps. He has slept in our kitchen ever since the snow last year but he can't spend all his time there and if we're away from the house he needs somewhere to lie down. Ideally we would prefer he slept in the garage at night but we want to be sure it's warm, hence the heater proposal.

Although my GSD lives indoors, he actually prefers lying out on the concrete in the garden and I have to call him in! I have put up a wire panel partition so he has somewhere to eat where the littlies can't nick his food, and he often goes in there just to lie down. There is an open shed in there but he never uses it - the only time he asks to come in is if it is raining!
